Overview

What does Study Text Summarizer do?

Paste a longer passage, choose how many sentences the digest should contain, and the tool returns the most representative sentences in their original order. Because it works on full sentences, the output reads naturally and keeps the author's wording.

It pairs well with the other study tools: summarize a chapter here, then turn the digest into flashcards or quiz questions.

Under the hood

How does it work?

The tool counts how often each word appears across the passage, then scores every sentence by how much of that high-frequency vocabulary it contains, normalizing by sentence length. Sentences that share the most words with the whole passage rank highest and are selected for the digest.

This frequency-based approach mirrors how extractive summarizers work: repeated terms usually signal the passage's main themes.

Real example

Example

Before (input)

The mitochondria are often called the powerhouse of the cell. They generate most of the cell's supply of chemical energy. Mitochondria have their own DNA, separate from the nucleus. This DNA is inherited from the mother. Mitochondria are found in nearly all eukaryotic cells.

After (digest)

The mitochondria are often called the powerhouse of the cell. Mitochondria have their own DNA, separate from the nucleus. Mitochondria are found in nearly all eukaryotic cells.

Sentences mentioning mitochondria most often scored highest.

Technical information

How the details work

Sentences are extracted with a regular expression that splits on sentence-ending punctuation. Each sentence's score is the sum of its words' frequencies divided by its word count, which prevents long, rambling sentences from dominating. The selected sentences are emitted in original order so the digest reads like the source.

Privacy & security

Your data stays yours

All processing happens locally in your browser. Your study material is never uploaded or stored.

Local processing — files stay in your browser

  • Summarization runs on your device with no network requests.
  • Nothing you paste is saved after the tab is closed.
  • No account or API key is required.

Limitations

What this tool does not do

  • The digest quotes your own sentences — it cannot generate new explanations or connect ideas.
  • Extremely short passages produce thin summaries.
  • Technical passages with unusual vocabulary may summarize unevenly.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Study Text Summarizer

How is this different from the regular summarizer?

The study summary is tuned for condensing study material into a revision digest and shares its local, extractive approach — both quote your own sentences.

How many sentences should I request?

For a chapter or page of notes, 4–6 sentences is a good starting point. Increase the count if the digest misses a section you need.

Does it keep the author's wording?

Yes — every sentence in the digest is quoted verbatim, so facts and phrasing are preserved.

Is my study material private?

Yes. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Can I turn the digest into flashcards?

Yes — paste the digest into the Flashcard Generator to create review cards from the key points.
